Working well away from your main desk — a coffee shop, a hotel room, a client site. The goal is a kit that fits in one bag and gets you to "good enough" ergonomics and connectivity anywhere.
How to choose
- Laptop stand. Even a folding riser that lifts the screen to eye level changes how your neck feels after a day hunched over a table. Look for something that collapses flat and weighs under ~200g. Pair it with a compact external keyboard.
- Portable monitor. A 14–16 in USB-C panel doubles your screen space on the road. Single-cable USB-C (power + video over one line) is the feature that matters; check your laptop port supports DisplayPort Alt Mode.
- Travel mouse. Flatter and lighter than a desk mouse, still full-size enough to use comfortably (Logitech MX Anywhere class).
- A travel power adapter with the plug types for where you're going, plus enough USB output to skip packing separate chargers.
- The bag itself. A dedicated laptop compartment, a tech pouch for cables so they don't tangle, and a size that fits your airline's personal-item rules.
What matters less
4K on a portable monitor (you won't see it at that size), and "rugged" laptop stands — lighter and flatter beats tougher for something that lives in a bag.
