Keeping a laptop, phone, headset, and everything else charged without a nest of bricks under the desk. The gains here are mostly about consolidation and reliability, not raw watts.
How to choose
- One GaN charger to replace several. A 100W+ multi-port GaN charger runs a laptop plus phone and earbuds from one wall socket. Check the per-port breakdown — total wattage is shared, so a "100W" charger may only give 65W to the laptop when a second device is plugged in.
- Power bank capacity, honestly. A 20,000mAh bank ≈ one full laptop charge or 3–4 phone charges after conversion losses. For flights, stay under the 100Wh airline limit (most 20,000–27,000mAh banks qualify — check the Wh figure).
- Wireless charging stands are convenience, not speed. Fine for a phone at the desk; don't rely on them for a fast top-up.
- A UPS (battery backup) is worth it if your power flickers — it keeps a desktop and router alive through brownouts and gives you time to save and shut down. Size it to your load with runtime to spare.
- Surge protection on anything expensive; a basic strip is not surge protection.
What matters less
Charger wattage far beyond your devices' input, Qi2 vs Qi for a desk stand, and "fast charge" branding without a spec to back it.
