APC Back-UPS Pro BX1500M 1500VA UPS: Full Rundown (2026)

The BX1500M is APC's 1500VA tower battery backup — enough capacity to keep a desktop computer, monitor and router running through short power cuts and give you time to save work and shut down cleanly, with automatic voltage regulation for brownouts. This is based on manufacturer specifications and retailer spec-sheet data; we don't test power equipment in-house.
Who it's for
Good fit if you work from a desktop PC (or a laptop plus monitor, router and dock) and want a few minutes of real runtime plus clean shutdowns when the power drops. Skip it if you only need to protect a laptop and router — a smaller, cheaper UPS covers that — or if you need to keep equipment running through long outages, which no unit in this class is built for.

What stands out
The battery-backed outlets give a typical home-office desktop setup several minutes of runtime rather than just seconds, which is the difference between finishing a call or save and losing it. Automatic voltage regulation handles brownouts and voltage sags without draining the battery, so the unit doesn't switch to battery for every flicker. The USB connection lets PowerChute shut your computer down on its own if an outage outlasts the battery, and the five surge-only outlets cover a printer or lamp without using battery capacity.
What to know before buying
The output is a stepped approximation of a sine wave, not a pure sine wave. Most office equipment runs fine on it, but some desktop power supplies with active PFC are specified for pure-sine UPS units — if your PC maker recommends pure sine, look at a pure-sine model instead. Runtime falls quickly as load rises: 2.8 minutes at full load is shutdown time, not working time. The battery wears out over several years and needs replacing (APC sells the replacement cartridge). APC also lists an equipment protection policy; check the current terms on APC's site, and note that plugging a power strip into the UPS can affect that cover.
Bottom line
For a desktop home-office setup that needs to ride out short outages and shut down safely, the BX1500M gives meaningfully more runtime and outlets than entry-level 600VA units, with voltage regulation included.
